Be sure to see a car repair expert to prepare your car or truck for travel.
You’ve gotten to the point in the holiday season when you’re looking for something a little different than the frenzied shopping crowds, so you’ve decided to do something non-holiday-related, like going to the Aquarium in New Orleans, or a bit farther afield to the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies in Gulfport. Both have received some cold-stunned Kemp’s ridleys, the most endangered of the sea turtle species, to rehab and release back into the wild. And while the Kemp’s ridleys probably aren’t on display, at least you’ll be looking at something other than reindeer pulling a sleigh.
If you do get on the road to Gulfport, or elsewhere, you’re not going to be the only one this holiday season. AAA predicts that low gas prices combined with a long weekend will mean that 98.6 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more from home during the year-end holiday season, an increase of 4 percent from the 94.8 million people who traveled last year. So you want to be careful. But you also want to make sure your car is ready for the trip.
Consumer Reports suggests you schedule an appointment with your friendly mechanic (like the ones at Twin Tire and Auto Care) to get some routine maintenance done and to check other items; such as your tires, brakes and battery. And you should do that before you get on the road.
Now’s a good time to come by one of Twin Tire’s three locations. We’re giving our customers a $25 gift certificate to use whatever way they want – tires or service (except on a conventional oil change). It’s their choice.
There are no strings attached to this gift. There are three ways to use it -- 1) Simply print the certificate (found here) and bring it to any of our stores. 2) Just bring your phone in to show us. 3) Click on this link to make an appointment today for service. It’s valid at any of our three convenient car repair locations -- Marrero, Hammond, or Harvey. And it’s good for service, auto repair and tires to all types of cars and light trucks – traditional gas powered, hybrid, diesel and electric. The certificate can’t be combine with any other offer and you have to use it by Jan. 31, 2015.
Also, please remember, we’ll be closing early on Christmas Eve (1 p.m.) and closed all day Christmas. So don’t wait until the last minute to bring your car in for a checkup.
