If your check engine light comes on, get your car to an auto repair shop to avoid more engine damage down the road.
You’re headed back to work after the holiday weekend when you notice to your horror that your check engine light is on. Your temptation is to simply ignore the thing because you’re sure this means a major repair. And, by ignoring it, maybe it will just go away.
Unfortunately, that’s not the case. But if you’re lucky, it could be an easy fix – check your gas cap. If your cap is loose, that can sometimes trigger the light to come on. If it is loose, tighten it and see if that takes care of the problem. If not, then it’s time to come by Twin Tire and Auto Care to let our ASE-certified technicians have a look. The culprit could be one of many things.
Among them, according to auto.howstuffworks.com: a wet engine, a blown head gasket, worn out spark plugs or spark plug wires, faulty oxygen sensors, and loose or cracked hoses and manifolds. No matter what the problem is, the website says, “it’s still important to get them taken care of. Even though the car could be driving just fine, you may be wasting fuel, putting out lots of pollution and damaging the engine. … Whatever you do, don’t lazily slap a piece of black electrical tape over it and go about your business. Cars just need a little love from time to time to stay in good shape, and neglecting a minor issue could lead to bigger problems down the road.”
Twin Tire can locate the problem and have you on your way again so you don’t miss penguin feeding time at the Aquarium.
