Car Tripping with Your Dog | Auto Air

You should never leave a pet in a parked car, even with the a/c running. You should also make sure you get needed a/c repair before heading out on a trip with your pet.

One of the classic sights along the roads during the summertime is a car whizzing by with a happy-looking dog hanging out the window, tongue and ears flapping in the breeze. Your dog may like the breeze blowing in his face, but animal welfare experts say it’s a dangerous habit because it exposes your dog to all sorts of possible injuries. Animal welfare experts, like those at the Humane Society of the U.S. also warn that you should never leave your dog (or cat, or gerbil, or python, or any other pet) in a parked car. Even with the air conditioning on, the temperature can quickly rise to dangerous levels.

“On an 85-degree day, for example, the temperature inside a car with the windows opened slightly can reach 102 degrees within 10 minutes. After 30 minutes, the temperature will reach 120 degrees. Your pet may suffer irreversible organ damage or die,” according to the Humane Society.

But going places with your pet is fun for both of you. So, what do you do if you want to take Max and Bella to the Oyster Festival with you?

First, make sure they’re going to be welcome. Once there, keep them with you rather than having them wait in the car or run around free. As for the car ride there and back? Make sure your auto air is working. It’s a matter of comfort for them. And you.

If you find your auto air isn’t working, there could be many reasons that range from leaking coolant to electrical problems. The best thing to do is to bring your car to the a/c repair experts at one of Twin Tire and Auto Care’s three convenient locations in Marrero, Hammond or Harvey. (If you want a/c service for your heavy, commercial truck, go to our Harahan shop.) Twin Tire has been the trusted shop in the New Orleans area for car repair, auto air repair and tire service since 1973.
